I am going to be travelling from AZ to NC with a dog that is banned in many places. By far the worst is Arkansas with many more places banning Pit Bull type dogs there than in the other states. I intend not to stop anywhere in State of Arkansas but if I were to break down and a stop was unavoidable does anyone know the likelihood of my dog being confiscated? I am worried sick about this and can find know information in the reams of different city rules posted. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Relax and enjoy your trip, I believe you are worried about nothing. Breed bans usually refer to them not living/or being kept in a certain jurisdiction, not merely traveling thru. No one will hassle you unless your dog gets loose and causes bodily harm to someone/something.

It is unlikely your dog would be at risk unless you were a resident of town that banned animals.

You dog will not be confiscated. It is not breaking any law to travel across the state with it. In fact, if you stay more to the northern part of AR, you'll bypass the vast majority of those areas. You'll be fine.

Most states require that you have your dog vet checked and fill out the form for the dog to cross state lines, saying it is in fact healthy. Keep that paper with you in case you are pulled over or something and make sure it is licensed and has all shots. Better yet, get it microchipped in case the dog gets away from you!

as long as you have all his shots, papers etc I think you are worrying about nothing. The ban, normally,as others have said is restricted to animals actually living in the state. Even then, it would have to be a special situation before anything would happen. Enjoy your road trip.

That is really sad to hear because we have some really amazing sights to see, especially in the Northwest and North-central part of the state. You'll be missing out on a lot. It's a hidden gem of a state in my opinion.

Gee, looking at the map it seems it's entirely possible to get to NC from AZ without venturing into AR.

If you're that worried about it, go around.

The states that have any type of ban on pit bulls is shown in red. Arkansas aint red.

Pit Bull Ban Laws (in United States) | Defend Pit Bulls

There are no state wide bans anywhere in the US. There are bans in some cities but no state wide bans.
